homeless artist

Sandrow’s Homeless Artist, a commission by Artforum editor, Ida Panicelli for Artforum’s Project page, Summer 1990.

Ida Panicelli was a founding board member of Hope Sandrow’s public art project, Artist & Homeless Collective.

“I began a conversation with a woman panhandling for change who studied to be an artist at RISD but couldn’t support herself which is why she was asking for money…I paid her a fee to pose for this commission at the 14th Street subway Union Square Station, NYC…”

— Hope Sandrow

Large-scale prints were exhibited at the Grey Art Gallery

1991 Hope Sandrow Disposable curated by Thomas Sokolowski, Grey Art Museum, New York University, NYC
